Benzedrine Nightmare
Tim White and Jonathan Venables formed Benzedrine Nightmare in Hackney, London, in the Winter of 2005. Benzedrine Nightmare make their music under a set of self imposed rules and directives to limit extraneous and distracting factors. For instance, each song must take no longer than three hours to write and record, the song length must be short and the vocals must be improvised (without any prior thought) in no more than three takes.
Lyrical content must be about people or situations that the singer has "never knowingly heard of sung about before" – a challenge both liberating and terrifying! If this vocal improvisation fails, a random lyrical cut-up approach is used – for instance cutting up and mixing lines from a Stephen Poliakoff play with those of a tabloid news paper. The resulting music is funny, surreal, moving and unlike anything else around – underpinned by varied musical styles that reflect the wide-ranging sonic background of its fearless creators.
Buy it – its friggin’ marvellous!!!
